Williamsburg Garden Week

Historic Garden Week in Virginia 2013, also known as “America’s Largest Open House,” will be held the week of April 20 – April 27. Every April, 250 of Virginia’s most beautiful gardens, homes, and historic landmarks play host to visitors eager to see extraordinary gardens at the peak of color. This long-standing, well-loved spring tradition is the oldest and largest house and garden tour event in the country.

Historic Garden Week’s Williamsburg tour will feature homes in Colonial Williamsburg and Kingsmill on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Some of the most gorgeous homes in Williamsburg will open their doors to the public for one day so you can admire their lavish gardens and interior decor. A special event luncheon will be held at the Kingsmill Resort. Your bed and breakfast host can assist you with tickets to Williamsburg Garden Week.

Tour Williamsburg VA private residences and their meticulously cared for gardens; including restored historic houses, estates, and contemporary homes, while delighting in the assorted preferences for interior design, architecture, and art. This year’s tour highlights include:

  • Orlando Jones House:  This simple house with its compact oval garden is one of the most photographed in Colonial Williamsburg’s Revolutionary City. The house and kitchen are furnished with period reproduction furniture, textiles, artwork and lighting and the floral arrangements reflect 18th century Williamsburg style.
  • Kingsmill Plantation Site: Once a small, thriving riverbank community with a ferry landing, the Plantation’s grand mansion was situated where Plantation Golf Course is today, overlooking the James River. The main house was destroyed by fire in 1844, but the two nearby dependencies and original garden steps remain.
  • Walking Garden Tour of Colonial Williamsburg Gardens.
