Garden Week

garden-weekYou know that every year when spring is in the air, you just can’t wait to get outside and enjoy it – so go ahead put the Williamsburg Garden Week on your calendar now. On April 23rd, 2013 some of the best homes in Williamsburg will open up for just one day for you to wander in and admire their gardens.

Spanning Williamsburg’s Historic Area, the campus of the College of William and Mary and some exceptional homes west of campus, the Garden Week locations will give you an eyeful – of colorful blooms as well as tons of ideas for your own garden.

Some highlights of the tour:

  • Bassett Hall: Of course, this former home to the Rockefellers is full of stunning grounds, including acres of woodlands and blooming gardens. This is the first time since 1961 that this home has been on the tour.
  • President’s House: This house not only has an amazing location, but it’s got history as well. It’s the oldest official residence for a college president in the United States – no surprise since the College of William and Mary is the second oldest college.
  • Hertzler-George Garden: West of campus, you’ll see a private home that has a professional touch. Linda and Joe Hertzler show how you can turn your yard into a colonial garden. This home was also featured in an issue of Better Homes and Garden recently, and it’s the first time it’s on the tour.
